As a young boy fan, in the 1960s, saving up Typhoo football cards and awaiting the delivery of a team photograph of Manchester United – Bernie Smith decided to start collecting memorabilia relating to his favourite player – George Best.
As Bernie’s interest grew, he built up a comprehensive range of George Best football related memorabilia but also infused this with trend setting fashion items from the swinging sixties that carried the George Best label. To this he added material from advertising campaigns that featured George in his celebrity mode.
The result was a collection that was rapidly being looked upon as treasured ‘gold’.
Today Bernie Smith is considered to be walking encyclopaedia on George Best and the ‘acorns’ that were Typhoo football cards have become the ‘oak tree’ that is recognised by many as the largest and most comprehensive George Best Archive in the world.
We are honoured to have included so many items from this Archive in the Bestie 75 Tribute Trade Card Collection.
